Kinley, One Year

As much as I love summer, it has been HOT lately. And this hot weather? Not exactly the most forgiving during photo shoots. Even three-month-olds are sweating! But sometimes you have no option but to sweat it out! 

For Kinley's one-year session, it was a super hot Sunday afternoon. Typically, I try to avoid mid-day sessions in the hot temps, but with babies and early bedtimes, you do what you have to do. We had planned a shoot on UGA's North Campus, but when we saw just how hot is was going to be, we switched gears and decided to do some photos in my home studio and in a nearby field that required a lots less walking - and sweating!

I'm so, so glad we changed plans because I LOVE the results. (I hope Matthew does, too, because he's the one who had to haul a piece of furniture into the middle of a field! Thanks, Matthew!)

Kinley is such a fun baby - sweet and full of personality, like her parents. Thanks, Kari & Michael, for bringing your sweet girl to see me and being willing to change plans and go with my crazy ideas!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Kinley wasn't quite standing on her own when we she hit the one-year mark, so her mom and I talked about waiting until she was standing well on her own to do the session. When she was standing, we quickly scheduled the session for about a week later. But by the time our session came around, she was already taking steps. It's amazing how quickly they change! I love this second image of Kinley on the move!

Osley, 3 months old

Wow! This is the longest I've gone without posting in a looong time! It's not because we haven't been busy, though. Quite the opposite, actually. Besides shooting LOTS of weddings, plenty of newborns and a little of everything in between, we've also been working on a new website (more info below!). We definitely aren't having a lazy summer! Blogging has fallen a bit on the priority list to make way for lots of editing, selecting images for the new site, and copy writing. (And I can't believe it's almost time to be talking about Christmas cards!)

Sorry if you've been checking in looking for a new post. I promise to be back to regular posting very soon! I actually have 23 sessions/weddings (and counting!) to blog, so expect lots of posts coming this way. Here's a recent one...one down, 22 to go!

Osley's three-month session was oh so different from her newborn session. She was much happier, but still very much awake and so smiley. But she didn't give smiles up that easily - we had to work for them! I can't believe how much she changed in just a few short months!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And in case you're wondering how to get a three-month-old to smile for photos, usually it takes lots of noise making, toy shaking and general silliness:

 

So, back to the website. If you've visited lately, you may have noticed that things are WAY different. If you visit now, you'll basically see a preview of the new site with a link to the blog. - it's a start to some very exciting changes. It's not quite done yet, but be patient with me because it may take a while longer. (Was wedding season the smartest time to work on a new website? Probably not. But too late now!) The website will be so very worth the wait, though - promise! 

And speaking of changes, this blog will have a new address soon! Don't worry, I'll clue you in when all of this is done, but in the meantime, make sure you have handmphotography.com bookmarked - the blog and website will all be housed under one roof!

One Last Session

If this family looks familiar, it's because we just shot Morgan's wedding and Andrew's senior photos. They figured while they were at it they'd go ahead and have a family session - their last before Morgan got married and their family welcomed one new member - Sean. 

Families with grown up kids are so much different to photograph than the little ones I'm used to - but still lots of fun. The dynamic just changes a bit as they get older (between each other and between me and the family). I wonder what it will be like to photograph some of the babies/kids I know now when they're in high school and too cool for silly photos. Sigh...

I Love the Beach...

and I love beach sessions! Just couldn't resist posting a couple from this week. I pulled these out to post really quickly, but there are many, many more that I'm loving that I'll post later.
